Opus Plasma is an innovative fractional-based skin resurfacing treatment which uses plasma energy (instead of laser) to create controlled, tiny fractional wounds in the skin to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes and collagen production. It only targets the skin’s surface to smooth away imperfections on the face, meaning there is minimal downtime. Opus Plasma is used to treat skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and other scars, and stretch marks. It can be used on all areas of the face, as well as the neck, chest, and hands.

Who is an ideal candidate for Opus Plasma?

Opus Plasma skin resurfacing is a good choice not only for those looking to smooth textural issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars but also for those who want to address other skin concerns, such as laxity and sagging, as well as an uneven skin tone. It’s an especially good choice for addressing loss of elasticity on the neck. Opus Plasma can be used much closer to the eye than lasers, making it ideal for addressing fine lines around the eyes and crows’ feet.

Generally, this treatment is recommended for those in their 40s to late 60s. It is the first fractional skin resurfacing tool that can work on all skin types (Fitzerald’s I-VI).

How do I prepare for an Opus Plasma treatment?

Preparation for the Opus Plasma treatment is very minimal. The main consideration is stopping the use of retinoids for a week or so prior to the treatment. On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with a clean face and no make-up.

Is there any downtime with an Opus Plasma treatment?

A key benefit of the Opus Plasma treatment is the reduced downtime needed to achieve the same results compared with other skin-surfacing tools. Overall, Opus Plasma resulted in approximately 50% less downtime compared to traditional fractional skin resurfacing technics such as CO2 laser, Fraxel, and microneedling. Expect your skin to be slightly swollen and irritated, as if you got a sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours afterward. You may experience some skin flaking on days three and four, but most people are completely back to normal by days five to seven.

How does it feel?

The treatment itself is mildly uncomfortable and most patients tolerate the treatment well. In some cases, a topical anesthetic may be applied to reduce any discomfort.

How long does a treatment take?

It takes only about 15 minutes to perform a full-face treatment with the Opus Plasma. You may need to apply a topical numbing cream which may take approximately 1 hour to settle.

When will I notice results?

Many patients notice significant improvements following just one Opus Plasma treatment, but generally, 2 to 3 treatments are recommended for optimal results. Treatments are recommended to be spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart. The skin tightening effects, in particular, may take approximately 3 months because it is dependent on collagen remodeling.   Depending on the number of treatment sessions, results may last over a year.
