Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) uses the healing properties found in your own blood to support tissue repair, stimulate collagen production, and encourage hair growth. At Ottawa Derm & Surgery Centre, PRP is used to treat thinning hair, improve skin quality, reduce under-eye concerns, and enhance overall skin rejuvenation.
Each treatment begins with a consultation to determine whether PRP is appropriate for your concerns. Because PRP is created from your own blood, it is a natural treatment option with minimal downtime and no synthetic ingredients.

PRP is a versatile regenerative treatment that can be used on its own or combined with other aesthetic treatments to improve long-term results.
A small sample of your blood is collected and processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. The concentrated PRP is then injected into the treatment area to stimulate your body’s natural healing and regenerative processes. Results develop gradually as collagen production increases over time.
Because PRP uses your own platelets, there is very little risk of allergic reaction.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a concentrated portion of your own blood that contains growth factors and platelets. These naturally occurring components help stimulate tissue repair, collagen production, and hair follicle activity.
What can PRP treat?
PRP is commonly used for hair loss, thinning hair, facial rejuvenation, under-eye concerns, acne scars, and improving overall skin quality.
Is PRP safe?
Because PRP is created from your own blood, it is generally considered a very safe treatment. Your provider will review your medical history to determine if PRP is appropriate for you.
How many PRP treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on your goals and the area being treated. Many patients begin with a series of treatments followed by maintenance sessions to help maintain results.
When will I see results from PRP?
Results develop gradually as your body responds to treatment. Improvements in skin quality may become noticeable within a few weeks, while hair restoration typically takes several months as the hair growth cycle progresses. Multiple treatments are often recommended to achieve the best results, and your provider will discuss an appropriate treatment plan during your consultation.
Is there any downtime after PRP treatment?
PRP requires little to no downtime, and most patients return to their normal activities shortly after treatment. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the treatment site is common and usually resolves within a few days. Your provider will review any post-treatment instructions to help support healing and optimize your results.
How should I prepare for my PRP treatment?
Your provider will give you personalized instructions before your appointment based on the area being treated. In general, we recommend staying well hydrated in the days leading up to your treatment, eating a light meal beforehand, and arriving with clean skin if you’re having a facial treatment. Be sure to let your provider know about any medications or supplements you’re taking, as they may provide additional guidance before your appointment.
