At ODC Healthcare, we pride ourselves on providing the very best healthcare advice, options and solutions to our patients. That’s why we’re pleased to offer a new breast cancer screening option to our patients:

Syantra DX | Breast Cancer is a blood test for detection of breast cancer. It’s easy, convenient and accurate regardless of tissue density or age. The test complements existing breast cancer screening practices and helps to streamline the clinical pathway for women.

Syantra DX | Breast Cancer is a precision medicine test based on a whole blood liquid biopsy, multi-biomarker gene expression signature and a machine learning derived algorithm for interpreting data. As a molecular test, Syantra DX | Breast Cancer can detect invasive breast cancer at early stages.

This test is intended for women between 30 and 70 years of age who have no previous history of cancers (except non-melanoma skin cancers), and who have not had breast surgery or biopsy in the last 12 months.

Why do we need another breast screening tool?

Women under 50 represent 17 percent of breast cancer diagnoses in Canada, but in many health systems, routine screening by mammogram isn’t recommended until after a woman turns 50 (for women without symptoms, of average risk). A significant number of eligible women also elect to not participate in mammography-based screening programs.

The efficacy of mammography varies among women. Characteristics such as patient breast density can negatively impact the performance of mammography. With a mammogram, the denser the breast tissue, the lighter the tissue appears on an image. This can make it more difficult to detect abnormal masses, which also appear white on the image. About half of all women have dense breasts.

As a molecular test, Syantra DX | Breast Cancer is a different approach to screening that can work with imaging and offer convenient and decentralized access to testing, which can promote regular screening and early-stage detection.

Who should consider the Syantra DX | Breast Cancer Screening Test?

Syantra DX | Breast Cancer has been evaluated in women between 30 and 70 years of age who have no previous history of cancers (except non-melanoma skin cancers), and who have not had breast surgery or biopsy in the last 12 months.

What is involved in taking the test?

  1. An ODC Physician will complete your blood test requisition.
  2. An ODC Registered Nurse will collect a 2.5 ml blood sample from you and send the sample to Syantra’s registered lab for analysis. Syantra personnel will process this sample and produce a Results Report that indicates if it is positive or negative for the breast cancer signal.

Syantra will return the completed Results Report to ODC. Our Medical Team will review your report and all other available screening information with you to determine the most appropriate clinical pathway.

Do I have to pay for the test?

Yes. This breakthrough blood test is offered as a private and proactive health service through ODC Healthcare. It is not covered by OHIP. As with other out-of-pocket medical services, we encourage patients to submit their detailed medical receipts to their private insurance providers or health spending accounts for assessment of possible reimbursement. In the absence of insurance or health spending account reimbursement, it is also important to evaluate the submission of out-of-pocket medical expenses with your annual personal tax filings. We recommend consulting with your accountant.

What is the cost of the test?

ODC Healthcare provides the Syantra Dx | Breast Cancer Screening test for $799.
