CoolSculpting is a body sculpting treatment that uses cryolipolysis technology to freeze away fat cells. Once your fat cells freeze, they die and are naturally eliminated from the body. In fact, most patients see up to a 20-25% fat reduction in the treatment areas! This treatment is FDA-cleared to treat nine different areas of the body, including:
- Under the chin and below the jawline.
- The flanks.
- The abdomen.
- Bra fat.
- Upper arms.
- Outer thighs.
- Inner thighs.
- Distal thigh.
- Underneath the buttocks.
Once you and your doctor have determined which treatments areas you would like to target, we will apply a clear gel pad to your skin to create a barrier between the cooling panel and your skin. You will feel a slight sucking or pulling sensation once the CoolSculpting applicator adheres to your body. You may then experience a number of sensations, including mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, aching, or cramping. However, these feelings will subside once the area becomes numb.
During treatment, many patients read, answer emails, or chat with friends. Because each CoolSculpting treatment is difference, the treatment length will differ depending on which areas of the body are being targeted and how many of them you plan on doing.
Once completed, the applicator will be detached, and we will briefly massage the treatment area to break up fat cells. Some patients may require more than one treatment to reach their desired results.
There is no downtime required following CoolSculpting treatments. This means that you can return to your everyday activities as soon as you feel comfortable. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle following CoolSculpting treatments to maintain your results. If you were to gain weight, the weight gain will most likely happen evenly throughout your body, and not just in the treated areas. Be sure to follow your doctor’s specific instructions regarding CoolSculpting aftercare for the best results.
Ideal candidates for CoolSculpting are at or near their ideal body weight but want to reduce stubborn fat deposits. However, those who suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria should not receive this treatment.
