What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is the process of using pulses of intense light or laser to destroy the hair follicle. With a series of treatments spaced anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks apart, you can achieve a major reduction in hair growth for multiple years. You can further maintain that result with regularly scheduled annual treatments. It’s relatively comfortable and quick and requires no downtime.

How is Laser Hair Removal Performed?

There are number of devices and technologies to remove hair semi-permanently. At Ottawa Derm Centre, we like to use a device with the most advanced science in its making and versatility to provide patients with results regardless of their skin tone. One of the devices we use is the following:

– Gentle Max Pro

Who is a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal devices look for the pigment (color) in hair to target and as such, the best candidates are patients with light brown to black hair. Although technology has improved and we can treat some lighter blonde hairs, the result cannot be guaranteed to meet each patient’s desired expectations. Unfortunately, patients with grey or white hairs are not candidates for laser hair removal.
