What is Botox?

We are located in Ottawa’s West end at the intersection of West Hunt Club and Merivale Road. We are passionate in our commitment to provide the highest quality of patient care. We welcome patients of all ages in need of therapeutic treatment for dermatological disorders and offer solutions for cosmetic conditions that give the best results.

Botox is commonly used to treat the following:

  • Forehead creases.
  • Crow’s feet.
  • Glabellar lines (frown lines).
  • The corners of the mouth.
  • A “cobblestoned” appearance to the chin.

Botox injections are non-surgical, and they can be completed during an office visit. Treatment will first begin with a consultation with one of our dermatologists, during which you can discuss your aesthetic goals. On the day of treatment, a topical anesthetic numbing cream will be offered to ensure that you are comfortable. Many patients, however, do not need this as the injections are not very deep. The Botox will be injected using a small syringe into strategic points to gain the desired results.

Following treatment, there is no downtime needed. However, you will need to take the rest of the day off from strenuous exercise or activity to ensure the best possible results. Common side effects include mild redness, bruising, and swelling at the injection site, which will dissipate with time. Botox results typically last anywhere from 3-6 months.

Adults who would like to soften the look of lines and wrinkles in their face can often benefit from Botox injections. Those who have deep lines between their eyes that make them look angry, sad, or tired, or those who are unhappy with the appearance of wrinkles in and around their eyes and forehead are good examples of people who may be good candidates. However, those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease should not receive Botox injections. The best way to determine if this treatment is right for you is to schedule a consultation appointment at our office. During this appointment, one of our skilled dermatologists will assess your face to determine if Botox is a good match for you.
